Searching for treasure with a metal detector can be an expensive hobby, but with this homemade DIY version from Essex Metal Detectors it doesn’t have to be!

It is based around a simple BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator) design that is pretty much standard in most entry level detectors available on the market. It has a small in inexpensive parts list and is all powered by a 9v battery.
