A team from Princeton University set out to prove once and for all the Diebold voting machines could be hacked easily.
Not only did they prove this to be a fact, they created a Diebold specific virus that spreads from voting machine to voting machine.
You can find out more information about the work they did and download a full PDF report on the security vulnerability at this link http://itpolicy.princeton.edu/voting/
This video just reinforces exactly how vulnerable these machines are, and once you take into consideration the fact that these machines are effectivley controlling the American Election, it looks even more scary!

With the American elections finally here, and following on from our previous election hacking post, we thought we would bring you a roundup of alternative 2006 US Election news ![]()
Starting off with the numerous vulnerabilities with the new Diebold touch screen voting systems, also known as DRE (Direct Recording Electronic) voting machines. The register featured an article which revelaled a vulnerability with all the machines allowing them to be booted off an external flash drive, granted the machine needs to be opened for this to happen, but a huge vulnerability nontheless - You can check out the original article here for more information or check out this link Open Voting foundation
A second vulnerability was exposed by Harri Hurst from the Black Box Voting website, this hack allowed users votes to be changed. You can download a full PDF report of this particular vulnerability at http://www.blackboxvoting.org/BBVreport.pdf
Then we have Clinton Eugene Curtis’s testimony admitting that he was hired by a Congressman to develop a prototype software package that allowed a vote to be swung one way or another. If you missed that post then the link is here http://www.hack247.co.uk/2006/11/02/american-election-hacker-testifies/
Wether or not this software package was ever designed to be deployed or was merely a security excersize is yet to be proved, but it has left a lot of the american population doubting the new electronic voting system.
Many states have abandoned using the Diebold systems due to their continued proven security flaws and vulnerabilitys.
A website has popped up which is supported by Michael Moore at http://www.endtheblackout.org/. They are planning to have video activists filming the voting processes in the key states to ensure nothing fishy is going on.
Without a doubt, this years US elections are going to be the most closely scrutinised yet. We will keep you posted on any more vulnerabilities as they are released.
American computer programmer Clinton Eugene Curtis is seen in this video testifying under oath in front of the U.S. House Judiciary Members in Ohio.
He tells the members how he was hired by Congressman Tom Feeney in 2000 to build a prototype software package that would secretly rig an election to sway the result 51 / 49 to a specified side.
He explains that it would be undetectable and only takes 100 lines of code to implement, watch it and then think about where your vote is really going ![]()
