This spoof infomercial had me in stitches.  It’s actually a viral created by the team at www.superdeluxe.com and sadly, Dale’s three part ‘Master Of The Internet’ box set is not actually available.  Something about that bad VHS quality makes it seem so authentic!

We’ve all seen the will it blend videos that helped create a massively successful viral marketing campaign.  Well take a look at this video showing you that even the worlds most powerful blender can struggle sometimes

Straight from the archives, a Google TechTalks presentation from 2006 by Mike Andrews who is a senior technical consultant at a company that does network security testing.  The whole thing lasts over an hour an a half so its a bit of an epic one but the information provided is excellent.  Although slightly dated, im betting the majority of expolits shown and demonstrated are still out there.

See Mike spoofing ID’s and defacing websites live before your eyes.

‘The World Wide Web is a lot of things - a soapbox for everyone, a giant shopping mall, an application platform, and unfortunately a hacker’s playground. As more applications get "web-ified" moving from the desktop or legacy systems onto the web, attackers follow the vulnerabilities. Without sophisticated tools or "1337 5×1llz", web applications are now the most attacked technology, with the majority of attacks categorized as "easily exploitable". So, before your application is placed out into one of the most hostile environments, how do you stop your software from being "0wn3d" by the 14 year old in their blacked-out bedroom, or being used by a Russian crime cartel? In this TechTalk, Mike Andrews will look at how web applications are attacked, walk through a testing framework for evaluating the security of an application and take some deep-dives into a few interesting and common vulnerabilities and how they can be exploited’

Those of us over in the UK are all used to using the chip & pin system, we were all told by the banks tha this new system would virtually wipe out credit card fraud. Now three researchers from the University of Cambridge in the UK have cracked the Chip & Pin system in alarmingly easy fashion.

Check out this video from BBC’s Newsnight detailing Sarr Drimer, Stephen Rimmer and Ross Andersons physical attack on the Chip And Pin system. As you can see, for some unknown reasons, the manufacturers thought it would be a good idea to transfer the data from the PED (Pin Entry Device) to the terminal unencrypted. Allowing an attatcker to obtain the complete card details.

For part two of this video then follow this link - And for a much more detailed explanation of the attack then check out their site at http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/security/banking/ped/

This laptop at LAX burst into flames whilst the owner was using it.  Watch as the fire burns through each of the batteries cells, causing further explosions..

Don’t think I could ever relax whilst using a laptop again if this ever happened to me!  The laptop in question was an IBM but no word on the make of battery it was using, could it be one of the infamous exploding Sony batteries Dell also use?

Ok, so we’ve all just about gotten over the combination of Diet Coke and Mentoes.  Heres another strange combo that has even more impressive results!

When a red gummi bear is added to Potassium Chlorate, which is made up of Potassium, Chlorine and Oxygen, and heated, it reacts violently with the sugar creating fireworks!

Wonder if different colour bears create different colour effects?

Following on from our Max Headroom Pirate TV Incident we reported on previously, we thought this may be of interest to some.  In 1986, John R MacDougall was working at Central Florida Teleport which streams programs to satellites.

At the end of his shift, whilst docking the satellites back to their resting position, which just happened to be pointing directly at the Galaxy 1 satellite, he typed a message into the terminal keyboard and hit transmit.

The time was 12:32AM on Sunday April 27th

His message, overlayed onto a test card was beamed to the Galaxy satellite and was seen by everyone watching HBO in the Eastern time Zone for a whole 4 and a half minutes.

The message, a screengrab can be found at the top of this article, said the following….

GOOD EVENING HBO
